Nasturtium 'Blue Pepe' is a distinctive European variety bred specifically for culinary use. Its name comes from the plant’s striking steel-blue leaves with purplish undersides.
The edible flowers are a vivid red and make a beautiful addition to salads or as a garnish for stir fries and colourful dishes. The leaves have a slightly peppery taste, similar to watercress — and become spicier when grown in full sun and heat.
Originally cultivated in Peru, nasturtiums were introduced to Europe by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.
