The Lapis Lazuli series by Pablo Octavio is made to play with the viewers expectations: What initially appears to be hard, rough and uncomfortable, shows a surprising contradiction when sitting down.
Each piece is made from one big block of soft foam. By carefully ripping the material Octavio creates the base, the backrest and footrest in a sculptural process. The interaction between chance and intention that lies in the action of tearing the foam, creates the beautiful stone like texture that gives each chair its very individual character.
For durability the raw foam is then coated with a highly flexible, UV-proof and water-repellent paint. It is suitable for outdoor use, we recommend storing indoors during the winter months.
